Yes, I agree with practicality. It's just that for some reason I've always loved philosophy and allowed it to permeate down to the practical level.

Well, "companies are problematic" is also lack of systems thinking (or lack of competences) of their management.

As for "people don't care"... This is the end of everything. People have free will and either care or don't care about their jobs. We can go on at length about the meaning of life.

Also, caring and not caring happen in waves, as one of my friends told me a long time ago

0 - problem (e.g. poverty) -> caring more, becoming smarter -> less problems -> caring less -> go to the starting point

These waves can span generations and probably also work at the individual level, and in multiple dimensions at once, which then result in technological, social, and economic trends.

Lets see how "ChatGPT crisis" will turn that wheel now for software developers. Makes sense to start becoming smarter at this moment.
