This ("Don't invest more...") may also be understood as you should already know the answer. Otherwise it's very far from a good advice.

Said this, I believe it's more important to have smart and coherent developers if you look any further than failure after failure. it's a common misconception, that something quick-n-dirty is cheaper (and I mean cheaper not only in the long term!) than a more solid software. Unfortunately, not so many people in software development understand that.
