There is probably an optimal point between helping others all the time and focusing on one's own job, and unless the entire team consists of genius developers, every team member needs to find that spot. Programming is usually a team effort. I saw some research from decades ago that stated high performers help less (the article analyzed many behaviors). Unfortunately, I can no longer find the source, but it makes me wonder what the correct balance is. For the whole team performance.
