Related, I've listened to R. Martin's talk on the future of programming languages. According to him, PLs are evolving from machine code and Fortran towards... LISP, assimilating three major paradigms in the process - structural, object-oriented and functional. (plus - due to some theoretical/practical considerations, dynamic typing). Note, that LISPs do have simple syntax (are are homoiconic), which makes them useful for AI applications. According to the same guy, Clojure is the nearest to the ideal programming language to be.

Applying this meta-prediction to the list of programming languages is left as an excercise.

That said, languages live and die, and something in-between due to different reasons. Falling from TIOBE does not mean anything yet.
