One approach could be that simulation does not even need to simulate the whole Universe. It only needs to simulate the consciousness.

Nicholas of Cusa might have commented that the simulated reality could be seen as a metaphor for the created universe as a reflection of the divine. He might have equated this idea with the notion of the finite world being a reflection or manifestation of the infinite nature of God.
