Great analysis! I think that the myth is not necessarily that bad though. It depends on the attitude of the believers. Do beginners have growth attitude or rely on what is given: Fixed vs growth mindset (read Carol Dweck on these). (As a sidenote, geniuses also need growth attitude, even if they can do all that about the cave already. And I bet they mostly do have that.)

In other words, it may be more fruitful to inspire growth attitude than to dispel the myth that there is actually no mountain to climb. Because the mountain is still there. Maybe the geniuses can tell how they achieved the easiness they demonstrate to beginners?

And it actually does not take IQ of 140+ to do programming (well, unless you do some rocket science programming), though this is hotly debated topic what is the lower bound.
